How to export your Bank of America transactions
Download the transactions from your Bank of America checking, savings and credit cards as a file you can keep, open in a spreadsheet or bring into RichDue.
Checked on against the sources linked under each part. Bank of America moves its menus from time to time, so each step names the words to look for.
On bankofamerica.com
- Sign in at bankofamerica.com and open the account.
- Above the transactions, select “Download”.
- Choose a statement period or your own dates, then the file type.
- Select “Download transactions”.
Bank of America’s help describes downloads in Online Banking, so use a browser rather than the mobile app.
Which file to choose
Choose Quicken (QFX). The Excel option saves a CSV, which works too.
QFX and OFX files carry an id for every transaction, so a month you download twice doesn’t double anything.
How far back you can go
How far back depends on the account: people report from about three months to a year and a half. Older months are PDF statements, which RichDue reads too.
What’s in the file
Above the transactions sits a short summary (beginning balance, total credits and debits, ending balance), and the first row is the beginning balance.
What RichDue handles for you
- The summary lines above the header and the “Beginning balance” row aren’t transactions. RichDue skips them and starts at the first real row.
Bring it into RichDue
Start free, answer six questions, then open Import and drop the file. RichDue shows every row before anything is saved: duplicates, transfers between your accounts and categories are marked, and you confirm.
Screenshots, bank alerts, statements or two taps: RichDue reads them, catches duplicates and asks before saving.
